How did you get to Bobcat?
Somewhere around autumn 2009, when I was studying third year of bachelor’s study at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Czech Technical University in Prague, I found an offer of a supporting designer in a newly built Bobcat office in Prague’s Anděl on the Internet. They were intended to search for university students and I just had some manual student part-time jobs till that time. I was invited to a job interview and it turned out well.
What positions did you work on in the company?
I didn’t have any experiences from huge companies, but it didn’t matter, for I passed training during the first half a year, that was focused on company processes and using of software. I stayed in the Prague office until the beginning of 2012, when I finally looked in the manufacturing in Dobříš. I got few trial tasks there, I passed the interview and was hired for part-time job, because I was still studying Master’s degree study at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. I was integrated into the MX Current Products team, where I started working on small things and I got to bigger projects step by step, which I led by myself.
I worked as a designer until spring 2015 when small restructuring happened. My existing manager Aleš Košťák left our team and I was offered his position. After a little hesitation, if I should take up the position – I am not working for the company for long and I haven’t got many experience after all – I told myself, I will take the offer, for such and opportunity wouldn’t repeat.
What does the job of team leader Current products include?
It isn’t already so much about construction, but more likely about working with people and their guidance. The main task of our team is to support out existing products that we have in the production – demands and problems from the serial-line production head towards us that we have to solve. For example the Product Marketing Department sets us a task a lot which has got certain requirements from the customers that we have to react to – how to improve the machines, what to add new, etc. Our task is also to search for savings of costs for machine construction where it’s a lot of scope for creativity, we also deal with complaints and support of our Sourcing Department, especially during resourcing of parts. I report to my supervisor, Mr. Vašíček, who is in charge of the whole Construction of Excavators Department and I also report to our vicepresident of Engineering, Mr. Rak, during our regular report meetings. I also have got a meeting with already mentioned Product Marketing Department once a month, which we closely cooperate with. I also try to cooperate with students from our student office in Prague, who we have got at our disposal. At the moment, I’m having three students in my team, whom I try to give maximum of my knowledge, to become fully-fledged members of the team in the future.
What did Bobcat give you?
It is my first experience with a big company which I am very happy for – it’s better than sit at some small design office with two or three people where you don’t gain many experience. I like the connection between construction and serial-line prodution, because it’s amazing to watch the whole process in the NPD (New Products Development) Department – from the first draft, through the construction of prototypes to the installation into serial-ine production. Furthermore, I am still learning how to work, deal and communicate with people, I try to keep in mind, that I have to continue in self-educating. I always had a problem with foreign languages, but since I have been working in the company Doosan Bobcat, I have improved myself appreciably in English – whether because of the daily e-mail communication with US colleagues and suppliers, or during regular reporting in English.
A what about your hobbies?
My greatest hobby is sport, I do mainly climbing and hiking at the moment, but I like floorball, running and traveling in general. I used to be a professional mountain bike racer before, but stopped doing it because of climbing.
